a) Lý do

a) Lý do nên phân tích

Đây là bước quan trọng đầu tiên mà bạn cần làm để đảm bảo rằng mình không đi sai hướng và sẽ bám sát những sự việc hiện tượng mà đề bài đề cập cũng như câu hỏi của đề bài. Bạn phải chắc chắn được rằng đây chính xác là dạng bài problem và solution essay. 

b) Cách làm 

Cách phân tích đề bài cũng rất đơn giản. Bạn cần xác định được đâu là từ khóa nêu lên hiện tượng của đề bài (Keyword), đâu là từ khóa nói về vấn đề cần làm rõ (Micro-keyword), và đâu là yêu cầu của đề bài (Action words).

Với topic này, bạn sẽ phân tích đề bài như sau:

• Keyword: Computer access
• Micro-keywords: Children, computer games
• Action words: negative impacts, measures

Như vậy, đây là một vấn đề về việc sử dụng máy tính, yêu cầu bạn viết về các ảnh hưởng xấu và đưa ra giải pháp khắc phục những ảnh hưởng tiêu cực đó, xoay quanh thực trạng chơi game trên máy tính của trẻ em.

Sau khi xác định được yêu cầu đề bài, bạn cần bám sát vấn đề “trẻ em bị ảnh hưởng tiêu cực khi chơi game trên máy tính” chứ không viết lan man sang các thực trạng khác như “máy tính có web độc chứa virus hay các bộ phim có nội dung không lành mạnh…” nhé.  

Bước 4: Tìm ý tưởng cho bài 

Việc lên ý tưởng cho bài viết sẽ gạch đầu dòng các ý, quan điểm, luận điểm, luận cứ bạn cho rằng có liên quan và sẽ làm bài viết trở nên sinh động, logic và đủ sức thuyết phục nhất.

a) Cách làm 

Bạn hãy lấy một tờ giấy nháp và viết mọi ý tưởng ra. Để tư duy một cách logic nhất, bạn nên lần lượt viết ra các ý tưởng, quan điểm, luận điểm lớn, rồi mới tới các luận cứ, ví dụ. Sẽ hiệu quả hơn nếu bạn có thể vẽ một cái mindmap (sơ đồ tư duy)

• Explanation 1: Pornography sites, reactionary website

• Effect 2: Criminals get sensitive information

Problem 3: Become addicted to the game

• Explanation 3: Spend too much time on games

Bước 5: Lập dàn bài 

a) Cách làm chung

• Từ mindmap và các ý chính được lên từ bước 4, người viết tiến hành lập dàn bài chi tiết, bao gồm cả ba phần: mở bài, thân bài, kết bài. 
• Với thân bài: Người viết nên lập dàn ý theo các đoạn văn với luận điểm lớn của từng đoạn; luận cứ chứng minh và các ví dụ.

b) Ví dụ 

Topic: Nowadays many people have access to computers on a wide basis and a large number of children play computer games. What are the negative impacts of playing computer games and what can be done to minimize the bad effects? 

– Introduction:

• Paraphrase về việc children play computer games.
• Thesis statement hoặc outline sentence chung chung như: “This essay will figure out some negative effects of this matter and give some solutions to surmount them”. Hoặc bạn có thể giới thiệu cụ thể và ngắn gọn những ảnh hưởng xấu và cách khắc phục bạn đưa ra là gì.

– Body paragraphs:

Paragraph 1: Negative effects

• Take form the inactive lifestyle of children
• Increase the rate of near-sighted children

Paragraph 2: Solutions

• Let children join in the positive activity clubs: music club, kung fu club, academic clubs, sport clubs…
• Schedule children’s computer game playing scientifically; Keep the reasonable distance between children’s eyes with the computer screen.

– Conclusion paragraph:

• Dẫn lại thesis statement và tóm tắt ý chính trong bài:

In sum, if children spend much time playing computer games, they negatively will be inactive and near-sighted. Thus, participating in the activity clubs and setting up the computer using regulations for children are the measures to limit these bad effects.

Bước 6: Tiến hành viết bài phần Introduction

a) Cách làm

Phần Introduction (mở bài) thường gồm 2 câu:

• Sentence 1: Paraphrase the question ( Viết lại câu hỏi của đề theo cách khác.)
• Sentence 2: Thesis Statement ( Câu chủ đề nêu rõ luận điểm, quan điểm trong bài viết một cách ngắn gọn)

Với topic trên, người viết có thể triển khai phần mở bài như sau:

Paraphrased: Climate change is among the principal dangers facing people this century and ocean levels are increasing dramatically.

Thesis Statement: This essay will first suggest that the biggest problem caused by this phenomenon is the flooding of homes and then submit building flood protection as the most viable solution.

c) Lưu ý cho phần mở đầu 

Để phần mở bài được hoàn thiện tốt nhất, người viết cần lưu ý:

• Cần paraphrase ( Viết lại) câu topic 
• Thesis Statement cần nêu rõ được quan điểm, luận điểm bài viết sẽ đề cập
• Các từ vựng khó, ngữ pháp bị động thường nên được ưu tiên trong toàn bài viết nói chung và mở bài nói riêng để tạo ấn tượng cho người chấm.

Bước 7: Viết phần Body paragraphs

a) Cách làm

Như đã đề cập ở phần trên, thân bài của dạng bài Problems & Solutions essay có thể triển khai theo 2 cách, trong đó cách 1 thường được ứng dụng nhiều hơn và được đánh giá cao hơn.

Paragraph 1: Problems- Vấn đề

• State problem: The foremost problem caused by climbing sea levels is the flooding of peoples’ residences.
• Explain: Millions of people all over the world live in coastal areas and if the sea rises by even a few feet, they will be inundated with water and lose their property.
• Result: Shelter is one of the most basic of human needs and widespread flooding would cause millions of people to become homeless, not to mention losing all of their possessions.
• Example: The devastation brought about by widespread flooding was clear for all to see during the 2011 Tsunami in Japan, in which millions of people were displaced.

Paragraph 2: Solutions – Giải pháp

• State solution: A possible solution to this problem would be to build flood barriers.
• Explain solution: Flood defenses, such as dikes, dams, and floodgates, could be built along coasts and waterways, thereby stopping the water from reaching populated areas.
• Example: The Netherlands is one of the most populated areas in the world and also one of the most vulnerable to flooding and they have successfully employed various flood defense systems.

Bước 8: Viết phần Conclusion paragraph

a) Cách viết 

Trong phần Conclusion ( kết bài) thường có 2 câu, bao gồm:

• Sentence 1: Summary of main points in paragraphs 2 and 3
• Sentence 2: Prediction or recommendation

b) Ví dụ 

Với topic trên, người viết có thể triển khai theo cách sau:

• Conclusion: To conclude, stemming the rising tides caused by increasing global temperatures is one of the foremost challenges we face and it will ultimately lead to many of the worlds’ cities being left underwater, but a possible solution could be to utilize flood prevention techniques already used by countries like Holland.
• Prediction: It is predicted that more and more countries will be forced to take such measures to avoid a watery catastrophe.

Bước 9: Kiểm tra và hoàn chỉnh lại bài 

Đây là bước vô cùng quan trọng khi tìm hiểu cách viết problem and solution essay, việc kiểm tra bài essay sau khi viết sẽ giúp người viết đảm bảo được các yếu tố sau:

Topic: There is growing evidence that man-made activities are making global temperatures higher. What might be the man-made causes of temperatures rising? How should we deal with this problem?

It is true that there is an increasing number of human-related activities posing grave harm upon the worldwide temperature. As far as I am concerned, this phenomenon can result in serious problems, which can be tackled using appropriate measures.

It is possibly said that this issue may be caused by some main factors. One of the prominent reasons concerning this problem is constructing a large number of factories. This is because the authority has the propensity for cutting down hundred hectares of forest to make place for building manufacturing facilities, which led to the fact that the flora and fauna’s habitat was destroyed. Henceforth, deforestation is considered as the chief culprit behind the deterioration in the biodiversity’s quality.  Another factor leading to this situation is the proliferation in population. This means the acceleration in using private vehicles. The transportation’s exhaust emission exerts detrimental impacts upon the air and people’s health, resulting in the alarming rate of respiratory-related diseases.

In truth, some imperative measures ought to/ should be taken to resolve these prospective issues. Restricting the building of factories or manufacturing facilities is highly recommended. This is proven to reap greater benefits in preserving the majority of primitive forests as well as exotic and rare breeds of animals and plants, which prevent them from utter extinction and help to restore the natural balance.  It is the government’s responsibility to encourage individuals to use mass transits. Therefore, the air contamination  will be decreased and its quality will also be enhanced. In addition, the citizens are encouraged to turn to using renewable- energy vehicles as the alternative to 

the fuel ones to protect the environment and their health status. 

In conclusion, there are indeed various repercussions regarding human-activities’ detrimental impacts upon the environment, yet, they can be solved once according measures are enlisted imperatively.
